Solid waste divison

Our Solid Waste division has several services available to the public to meet your waste disposal needs, including recycling options!

The Solid Waste Process

Our Solid Waste Division serves more than 2,000 residents per day during their four-day work week. The waste is picked up and brought to the transfer station, where it is compacted into a roll-off box and hauled to the landfill.

An automated side-loader is used to collect waste from most customers. This is more efficient than having employees physically load the trucks, and it reduces the number of injuries from repeated lifting of heavy objects. The Solid Waste Division drives the equivalent of six times around the Earth each year!

We generally work Monday thru Thursday. If there is a holiday, typically we are closed and pick-up is delayed by one day for the rest of the week. Please see our Holiday Schedule.

Pick-Up Times

Monday – Thursday | Starting at 6:00 a.m.

It is important for customers to have their trash out at the curb prior to 6 a.m. on their pick-up day. It’s likely that your driver will come at about the same time each week, however, vehicle maintenance, repairs or a change in driver could cause variation in schedules.

Additionally, toters need to be placed at the curb and with several feet of clearance around all sides. Having the toter too close to a parked car or other obstruction is hazardous and may result in your trash not being collected.

Large Item Pick-Up

One Per Month

Marion Utilities customers get one free large item pick-up per month. Please set your items out for pick-up on the day of your appointment by 6 a.m. Please make sure that there is plenty of room around your item and that there are no overhead wires.

Many large items can also be dropped off at our Transfer Station at 1300 N. Washington St. Monday-Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (closed for lunch from 12 to 12:30) Fees apply, see the menu for Fees for Extra Solid Waste.

If you have an item that does not fit in your toter, call 765-664-2391, option 4.

Or send us an email at solidwaste@marionutilities.com
