Pollution Prevention Program

Opportunities for Everyone
What is pollution prevention in Marion Indiana?

Pollution prevention can be accomplished by substituting a less toxic product for a toxic product, recycling or reusing materials, and changing activities or operations so that a material is no longer needed.  Homeowners and businesses each have pollution prevention opportunities.
What can I do as a business owner?

Each business is different.  The Indiana Department of Environmental Management Office of Pollution Prevention and Technical Assistance offers to help you here, or check out their Indiana Small Business Guide to Environmental, Safety, and Health Regulations  here.  The EPA also has guidance available for businesses at their website.
What can I do as a Homeowner?

There are many ways that individuals can practice pollution prevention, including:
  • use less toxic cleaners
  • take unused cleaning chemicals and other household hazardous waste to the Grant County recycling center (call for hours 677-6044)
  • eliminate and properly dispose of all mercury containing items
  • dispose of unused or expired medications at a collection event or put in the trash.
