Alley between 5th/6th From D St to Nebraska Sanitary/Storm Replacement – Phase I

In the early 1900’s a 12” sanitary sewer was installed in this alley with a 24” storm sewer laid directly on top of it. Over the last century the condition of both of these tiles has deteriorated dramatically. This situation is further complicated due to the location of the storm sewer making it impossible to access and maintain the sanitary sewer.

Therefore, in the summer of 2011, Marion Utilities plans to start construction on phase I of a project to replace/rehab both sewers between D St. and Garfield St. Approximately 700’ of sewers in the worst condition will be re-established in this block.

This project is expected to cost approximately $170,000 and construction will last approximately 2 months. Sewer service may be interrupted temporarily while the contractor connects each house into the new sewer main. Home owners will be notified by the contractor before this interruption.
