If you are having problems with your toilet running or sticking this can greatly affect your water bill. Some toilets do not stick every time you flush, thus giving you the appearance that you have no leak. The Billing Office has available upon request toilet dye strips that can help you detect a leak at the stool. You may stop into the Billing Office during business hours for the strips. Check your toilets, they are often running and cannot be heard. The sources of a leak (click diagram for a larger view) may be due to:
1. Sometimes the the ball/flapper can stick and cause a considerably large water and wastewater bill that is NOT adjustable. 2. The flapper valve and valve seat have deteriorated or corroded. 3. The flushing arm and life chain are not working properly. 4. The water level in the tank is too high and spills into the overflow tube. 5. The float arm, ballcock, and/or float ball are corroded.
