Marion Utilities Wastewater Laboratory
Certified Laboratory No. M-27-1

The Marion Wastewater Lab is certified by the Indiana State Department of Health for the bacteriological examination of public waters for the detection of Total coliforms and Escherichia coli in drinking water using the Colilert & Colisure methods.  Public Water Suppliers should contact the lab for more information.

Our lab is also certified to perform compliance testing on public swimming pools.

We are certified to perform heterotrophic plate count and coliform presence/absence using Colilert and Colisure as outlined in the 18th edition of Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater.

Our lab is the only state-approved water laboratory in Grant County.

The primary mission of the WWTP lab is to monitor the final effluent of the plant and report the results of our analysis in order that we can maintain compliance with our NPDES permit.  We also analyze samples from other stages and processes of treatment to determine how the plant is operating and to maintain optimum efficiency.

We analyze industrial effluent samples collected through our pre-treatment program to monitor and ensure compliance with our sewer ordinance statue.

As a service to the public, we will test well water samples for the presence of total coliform and E.coli bacteria.  The cost of this test is $20.00.  Samples are accepted in the lab for testing Monday through Thursday between the hours of 7:00 am and 3:00 pm.  Contact the lab for more information and to receive a sample bottle with instructions.  The lab hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.  We are closed to the public on weekends and holidays.
